Say cheese!!!
Ludwigsburg is about a 2 hour drive from the Kaiserslautern area and fairly easy to make a quick day trip to see the crazy awesome pumpkin heaven. The festival takes place on the Palace grounds, called
Blühendes Barock which is right in the city center. We considered bringing Molly, and dogs are allowed, but we opted to leave her behind due to the potential large crowds. The festival runs from early September to early November, giving you 2 long months to make it over to Ludwigsburg. The entrance cost us 8.50 and included a visit to the palace.
We found it easy to park in the Rathaus Parking Garage with only a 5 minute walk to the back Garden gate to the Palace. The festival has a ton of things to do for all ages. They have a fairytale garden, train ride, boat ride, food tents, pumpkin sculpture gardens, the palace, and more. I would budget at least 3 hours to spend at this festival and more if you want to tackle all it has to offer.
Pumpkin Wine and Schorle
Pumpkin soup and lasagna
Potato Pumpkin Pancakes with Apfelmuss
Huge Pumpkins!
Aladdin
The only thing we didn't get a chance to do was the Palace tour, but we spent lots of time hunting down all of the pumpkin goodies. We tried pumpkin soup, pumpkin lasagna, pumpkin pie, pumpkin fries, pumpkin potato pancakes, and more! The portion sizes here were very generous and reasonably priced, which made them perfect to share.
It was a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon enjoying the beautiful German Fall weather! I absolutely love this time of year and even more so in Germany. And to top it off, here are just a few of the fun scenery shots from my walk in our village!
That's all for our Fall Festival adventures!!! Hope you enjoyed seeing some of the crazy pumpkin art and all the beautiful colors in our scenery right now!
