So today's blog is a little bit different from the regular life and travels in Germany. I recently began a new venture and thought that using my blog as an outlet was the perfect place. Whether someone agrees, disagrees, thinks I am crazy, thinks I am genius, or believes in what I am doing, I stand by my experience thus far and have great confidence in my decision.
What exactly are you talking about, Jette? As my husband would tell me, "Get to the point!" I now am adding a another job other than Speech Pathologist to my title, and that is I am now a Consultant with Rodan and Fields. I honestly never saw my self doing anything with skincare, even though I am a skincare and makeup junkie. I always considered those interests simply hobbies and things that most women love to play with and talk about, but now I am turning something I love into what I hope is a genius business plan.
How did I get into something like this? I wasn't really looking for the opportunity at the time. Two of my sorority sisters approached me about it, and at first I was intrigued but resistant. I never found myself to be one to have my own business or do direct sales. These two individuals had never sold a thing in their life, but somehow were having success simply through their passion for the products and the company. Seeing the success with that my friends were having and how their skin was changing, I became more and more interested. I watched them for a while, researched the company, and finally I knew I had to dive in or just be done entertaining the idea. It was probably the worst time to start something like this because we were in the middle of moving overseas to Germany, but I am so glad that I did. I knew that I would likely not work here and at the time was okay with that. I will say that planning our travels over here feels like a full time job, but now I have a fun job that I get to do on my own time, that will pay my car payment each month, and in time will allow me to stay at home with our future little ones. The best part is that I am changing my sun damaged skin, and I get to help my friends with any of their skin concerns too!
For those of you that don't really know our companies history, Rodan and Fields are the same doctors that created Proactive. While they are still practicing and teaching at Standford, the still had a vision for skincare and developed more comprehensive regimens for common concerns there were seeing in their practice. Most men and women were dealing with sun damage, acne and scarring, sensitivity, and the biggest one of all anti-aging. I will say that while this a direct selling company, it didn't start off that way. We are the only direct selling business that actually started selling our product in a retail setting. The Doctors partnered with Estee Lauder and were selling in high end department stores like Bloomingdales and Nordstrom. For a few years they were a number one seller in Nordstrom, however, they found through some developmental research that most people were buying the product because of word of mouth. With social media skyrocketing and this new finding they bought back their share from Estee Lauder, pulled their products from the shelves, and decided to sell the product by creating entrepreneurs. It really is pretty cool, because as a consultant all we do is talk about our skin, products, and share the information and if someone is intrigued great, if not, then its not a big deal!
We have 4 primary regimens for acne, anti aging, sun damage/brown spots, and sensitivity. They focus on 4 step regimens that are multi med therapy. This means you are getting different medicines in each step that ultimately work together to achieve a goal. Our products also have the highest amount of active ingredients than most products on the market. The best part in my opinion are our tools. People will go to the dermatologist and get treatments that cost a fortune, but the Doctors created similar tools that are safe enough to use at home and DO yield results. If you happen to read this and are interested in what we offer, feel free to message me because I love to share and talk about these awesome products!!
One of the cool things that really got me interested in being apart of this team and company were the tons of free press that they receive. Our doctors and products are monthly promoted in magazines and on shows like Ellen and the Today Show for free. We even have celebrities using and selling our products, because they see the results and opportunity that our business brings to the table. I just think that when people like Brittany Spears and her mother have access to tons of skincare lines, yet they choose Rodan and Fields, that speaks volumes. In September, we launch a new product that no other company rivals as of yet!! We also start our global expansion into Canada.
All of this together, makes me excited to be apart of a great Brand backed by amazing Doctors and an amazing team. The support has been endless from friends, family, but more importantly from teammates that have even yet to meet!! We all have a common goal to help people with their skin, and offer an amazing opportunity to anyone who wants to work from home, supplement an income, replace an income, or just have a shameless shoe fund! In my second month with the company, I have been nothing less than impressed. My goals now are small, but I see big things and tremendous growth with this company in the next 5 years, and I am pretty pumped to get to be along for the ride!
This is all so out of my comfort zone and daily it is a wild ride, but I know that I am putting the Lord at the center of this venture and can only hope and pray for success in the future. I am writing this really to encourage myself to not quit. I want to work hard for my goals in life and ride the roller coaster of ups and downs with confidence. I am loving the quote that "life begins when you step outside your comfort zone." I truly believe that for me this is a huge leap, but maybe in the end I will be better for it and can maybe help friends and team mates to grow in the process.
